About Gardena JCI Kendo Dojo

The Gardena JCI Kendo Dojo is committed to preserving and sharing the Japanese martial art of Kendo, the “way of the sword.” We provide a respectful, disciplined, and welcoming environment where students of all ages and skill levels can learn, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners.

As a proud member of the Southern California Kendo Federation (SCKF), our dojo carries on the legacy of the pre–World War II Japanese American kendo community. Generations of students have trained here, and many continue the tradition by teaching and guiding new members, giving our dojo a sense of history and continuity.

We believe Kendo is more than just martial training. Practice builds strength and fitness, sharpens focus and discipline, and encourages personal growth. Most importantly, it creates a community where people learn, improve, and grow together.

Why Join

“Training at our dojo offers more than just exercise. Students gain a full-body workout that develops strength, stamina, agility, and coordination — while also building mental discipline, confidence, and self-control. Beyond the dojo, many find that the rhythm and challenge of regular practice sharpen focus, patience, and resilience in daily life. Kendo is not only a martial art, but also a living tradition rooted in history and culture.”
